Betty Asfalt Complex

Betty Asfalt Complex

Betty Asfalt Complex is a small and intimate theatre located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam-Centrum.

Apart from being the home base of artist Paul Haenen, it is also both a stage for new talent, and for intimate small scale performances for more established theatre personalities.  The Betty Asfalt theatre hall has a capacity of 115 visitors.

The theatre is housed in a monumental building dating back to the 18th century. It was first used as a theatre in the 1960's by a cabaret theatre group named Tingel Tangel

The theatre was bought by Paul Haenen and a companion in 1989, after which it was renamed the Betty Asfalt Complex.

Paul Haenen is a Dutch actor famous for his voice- and character acting.  Several of his self invented/ self played characters, such as Margreet Dolman and Dominee Gremdaat, became famous based on performances both on television shows and on the stage. He is also well known as the voice of Bert of the Ernie and Bert duo in the Dutch version of Sesame Street.
