Filmhuis Cavia is a small "counterculture" cinema with its roots in the 1980's Amsterdam squatter scene. Cavia is located on the first floor of a former maritime school building on the Van Hallstraat in Amsterdam-West.
Filmhuis Cavia has one screen and about 40 seats, making it the smallest cinema in Amsterdam. Filmhuis Cavia mainly programmes film classics, documentaries and experimental films not likely to be found in other cinemas. The cinema is run entirely by volunteers, and is run along non-profit principles giving it complete freedom in its programming.
