The Bloemenmarkt is an outdoors flower market, located on the Singel canal in the centre of Amsterdam.
The Bloemenmarkt runs paralel to the Kalverstraat and starts at the end of the Leidsestraat, both of which are popular shopping destinations.
The Bloemenmarkt is opened six days a week.
The shops on the Bloemenmarkt sell a diversity of flowers and flower bulbs (including a great variety of tulips), but also houseplants, herbs, seeds and gardening utilities. Due to a growing interest of tourists, the Bloemenmarkt also has a lot of shops selling souvenirs.
The Amsterdam Bloemenmarkt has existed on this location since the second half of the nineteenth century. In the nineteenth century the traders in plants, flowers and trees transported their goods by boat from the Dutch agricultural areas to the Amsterdam canals. The current flower shops on the market are still situated on stationary boats.
