LAB111 is a self proclaimed "cult" cinema, located in a former pathological anatomical laboratorium unit on the Arie Biemondstraat in Amsterdam-West.
LAB111's cinematic programming is aimed at discerning cinema lovers, and features a lot of modern day classics, intellectual documentaries and unconventional genre productions.
The restaurant/bar adjoining the LAB111 cinema is called Strangelove, after the iconic Kubrick movie.
LAB111 maintains an exhibition space in the building which it uses to offer a platform to independent visual artists.
The monumental building housing LAB111 was built in 1928 as the pathological anatomical lab of the Wilhelmina Gasthuis, a large hospital that was constructed in this area in the late nineteenth century. In the early 1980's the Wilhelmina Gasthuis hospital merged with another large hospital and moved to a larger location in Amsterdam-Zuidoost to form the Academisch Medisch Centrum.
