Maloe Melo is a blues and rock-café located on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam-Centrum. Maloe Melo is best known for its firm focus on live music, with performances taking place there all through the week.
Maloe Melo originally profiled itself mainly as blues-café, but nowadays artists of all shades of rockabilly, rock ’n roll, garage, country, ska or punk may be found performing there.
Maloe Melo has been active since the early 1980's and has a somewhat cultish status both in Amsterdam and internationally, which is mostly due to the enormous amount of artists both famous and infamous having performed there.
Many a local garage band made their live debut in Maloe Melo. But although Maloe Melo may seem but a small, intimate stage, it actually has quite a reputation internationally. Some big names such as Patti Smith, Jeff Healy and Bruce Springsteen (to name but a few) have performed there.
The owner of Maloe Melo is a musician himself, and it is claimed that it is mainly the love of live music that has kept the place moving for so many years.
